Why choose me as your branding photographer?
Photos that feel like your brand, on your best day happen as a result of you feeling relaxed and at ease on the day. I know this from over 20 years of experience as an actor, director and creative. I love bringing it all together within my photography so that my clients feel comfortable in front of the camera and having their spaces captured.
My passion is helping creatives and those in the wellness industry shine through authentic, story-driven branding photography. Unlike photographers who juggle weddings, families and branding, I’ve chosen to specialise in this genre to offer my clients the care and expertise they deserve.
My interest in branding began when I had my acting portraits taken and I realised there was a way to do it that was relaxed and fun. I know how to pose. I know how to overcome doubts. I know what makes a good photograph full of personality and so it feels like you. And most importantly I’ve refined my process to enable my clients to also feel relaxed. This expertise is why my clients choose me.
I’ve now refined my process to ensure I can get to know my clients as soon as possible so that by the shoot day we’ve had a chance to build up a relationship and connection. The camera can see this! I’m also keen to support you in any way helpful so when you work with me, you will receive lots of info and support in the run-up of planning your shoot to get you going, here are five useful tips when you’re considering a personal branding shoot:
1. Clarify your brand message
- Think about what you want your photos to say about you and your business.
- Consider your target audience: What do you want them to feel when they see your images?
- Jot down a few adjectives that describe your brand (e.g., approachable, creative, luxurious) to help plan for the shoot.
2. Consider your outfits thoughtfully
- Choose outfits that align with your brand’s colors and vibe.
- Avoid bold patterns or logos unless they’re a key part of your brand identity.
- Bring a variety of outfits (casual, professional, and creative) to match different photo uses.
3. Select a location that fits your brand
- I always suggest starting with your actual working location for authenticity but sometimes it isn’t suitable so you could consider a local hire or an outdoor location. I’ve got lots of advice on this.
- Think about where you’ll use the photos—would you like a lifestyle feel? Or do you need a clean background for negative space and use of text overlay? Would you like glimpses of behind-the-scenes or simple portraits of you and your space?
4. Bring props that represent your work
- Please do consider incorporating items that tell your story, such as tools of your trade, artistry, or personal touches, mood boards, books etc.
- Props can help make your photos visually engaging and connect them to your brand. But only if they make sense. An uber-minimalist space with very little might work very well if you’re a professional declutterer but less so f you’re an oil painter inspired by vintage objects and examples from nature.
5. Prepare Yourself for the Shoot
- Rest well the night before and focus on the intention behind your shoot anytime you feel a pang of nerves.
- Practice a few poses or expressions in the mirror to explore what feels natural Vs what it looks like
- Relax and trust your photographer to guide you—it’s our job to put you at ease.
